Hi! My name is Shalini Verghese!

I never planned to work in the area of Fitness and Wellness.

As a high-schooler in India, I saw how kids struggling academically were penalized rather than supported, and decided that I wanted to work in schools in India, where there was only just a growing awareness of counseling and assistance for the challenges kids face. So I studied Psychology.

But God had other plans…

I came to the US where I got my MA in Counseling, still with the intention to work in schools.

And then I had kids…

As a young mum, the Lord gave me a heart for women – especially those in the trenches of motherhood, who give everything they have to their families, with little time, or energy to recharge themselves. I discovered the power of finding pockets of time, and simple shifts that support our seasons, and wanted to help women experience this. So I got a bunch of certifications and started doing just that!!
It’s amazing how God has enabled me to combine my Psychology, Counseling and Seminary background, with Personal Training, Health, Wellness and Nutrition Coaching and has enabled me to serve and help women change their lives. He prepares us for those things He has for us and for those He puts in our paths.

MORE ABOUT ME!

I am married to Jacob, and we have 3 kiddos ranging from ages 21 to 15. We live in Massachusetts, USA. Together we muddle our way through life, guided by our faith, love for family, friendships and in my case, fitness.

About 25 years ago I “discovered” exercise. I was “playing”  tennis one summer (mostly running behind the ball to pick it up!!) and found myself losing weight!! It might seem odd that I was so shocked by that, but I was!! As long as I remember I had wanted to lose weight – and here it was happening while I was having fun!!

Then when I had my first baby, I went to the gym quite regularly and came to realize that while yes, I wanted to lose the “baby weight”, what became more important was how I felt energized and ready to face a dependent little human, and an active toddler.

I have come a long way since then. I have come to appreciate how amazing our bodies are, and how incredibly God has created them to function. So, now for me personally, it’s no longer all about weight, but also taking care of my body- by fueling it well, staying active, getting rest and managing stressors. These all help give my body the opportunity to work in the the way God designed them to.

And now as a woman who is navigating the Menopause season, I am even more acutely aware of all the the ways we have to support our body, soul and spirit, so that we can thrive in the next season of our life. God is not finished with us yet, and He has work for us to do! We can take steps so we can be ready for it, while experiencing His joy in the journey!!

Shalini has been great with helping me get into a regular  exercise routine and discipline. She patiently listened to my goals at first and developed a plan that would suit my physical needs as well as my schedule as a busy working mom. She is extremely encouraging – celebrating progress and the small wins but is also astute in knowing when to push and challenge me further. She has  been a very patient guide coaching me along the way on nutrition, mental attitude as well as the practice of setting and achieving realistic goals. Her pleasant and calm demeanor bring a mindfulness to each session and she is always encouraging, reminding me to see my fitness journey as a marathon and not a sprint.
